Lakehouse Porch Ideas: How We’re Planning Our Outdoor Seating
When we bought our fixer-upper lakehouse, one of the first things I fell in love with was the porch.
The lake sits right across the street, so the porch has the perfect view. I can already picture mornings with coffee and a book and evenings hanging out with family while the sun goes down.
There’s a lot of renovation work ahead of us this first year, so the porch makeover itself probably won’t happen for a while. But I still wanted to create a few comfortable seating areas so we can enjoy the space right away.
Wayfair has a huge selection of outdoor furniture, which made it easy to find pieces that work together while creating different seating spots around the lakehouse.
Once I started browsing, I quickly found a few pieces that felt perfect for the porch and dock area, and I can’t wait to see everything come together.
These are the pieces I chose to start building our lakehouse porch seating setup.

1. The Cozy Egg Chair
The first piece I picked was a wicker egg chair, and I’m already imagining this being everyone’s favorite seat.
It’s the kind of chair you sink into with a cup of coffee in the morning or curl up in with a blanket in the evening. I also know the kids are going to fight over this one.
What I love about this chair:
- Its oversized & fits 2 people
- It feels relaxed and cozy
- The wicker keeps it light and airy
- The neutral cushion works with everything
This will go on the right side of the porch facing the lake, which might just become my new favorite reading spot.
2. The Patio Rocking Chair
My husband is a rocker. If there’s a rocking chair anywhere, that’s the seat he’ll pick every time.
So adding a patio rocking chair was an easy decision.
This one has a simple frame with woven detail that ties in nicely with the egg chair. It’s comfortable but still feels clean and modern, which is exactly the look I wanted for the porch.
We’re going to get two of these chairs and place them near the outdoor sofa the previous owners left behind so it creates a little conversation area for hanging out and playing games.
3. The Small Bistro Set
One thing I wanted for the porch was a smaller seating area that still felt inviting.
A bistro set is perfect for that.
These are great for:
- morning coffee
- a quick snack
- sitting and watching the lake
- extra seating when friends come over
I love that this set is compact but still looks stylish and comfortable. It also goes great with the egg chair!
It’s the kind of seating that makes a porch feel relaxed and lived-in.
4. The Bench by the Dock
As you can see in the photo, the dock has definitely seen better days.
It’s old enough that it really needs to be torn out and rebuilt, so that will be one of the first things we take on before summer.
Once the new dock is in, we know this area will quickly become a spot where people naturally gather.
That’s where this bench comes in.
Having a bench near the dock gives us a place to sit while watching the kids swim, waiting for someone to bring the boat around, or just taking a few minutes to enjoy the lake view.
I fell in love with this bench from Wayfair, especially because of the color! The soft yellow instantly caught my eye.
It feels cheerful and a little unexpected, and I think it will look beautiful against the water and greenery around the lake.
It’s a simple piece, but I think it will make the area by the dock feel a little more welcoming and give everyone a spot to pause and enjoy lake life.
Why We’re Starting Simple
With so many projects planned for the lakehouse, we decided not to tackle a full porch renovation this year.
Instead, we’re focusing on creating comfortable places to sit and enjoy the space right away.
Sometimes the best memories happen when things are still a little unfinished.
Morning coffee, kids running around, friends visiting, and evenings watching the lake — that’s what this porch will be for.
And honestly, that’s exactly why we bought this place in the first place.

Final Thoughts
This lakehouse is definitely still a work in progress, but that’s part of the excitement. Once we open the house up for the season, the very first thing I plan to do is set up the porch so we can start enjoying the view right away.
